An exhibition of contemporary artists' work in response
to the idea, myth, symbol and actuality of the island.

Islands have always held a fascination for artists, poets and writers. Many paintings, photos, poems, and books have explored the subject. This one off exhibition project sees a number of contemporary artists, poets and writers respond to the theme. Their approach to islands may be actual, theoretical, imagined or metaphorical. Work is in a range of media, 2D or 3D, but all has been produced specifically on the theme for this exhibition. Artists limited edition or original books are included and the exhibition also encouraged collaborations between poets, writers and visual artists. It is hoped to organise readings by poets and writers to coincide with the exhibition. The possibilities of short performance based works or specially written music was also an option. The exhibition will include up to three works by the invited artists. Framed texts will also be included and a series of temporary case displays of books, found objects, charts and artefacts relating to the theme will be assembled.

The exhibition is the idea of Cardiff based artist Adrian Paul Metcalfe who curates the show and also contributes his work. He has exhibited widely in one person and group exhibitions over many years. This exhibition is the fourth group collaboration he has instigated and runs from October 7 to November 11 2006 with a Private View to be held on Saturday October 7 between 2 and 4 pm.
